Play with Pride is an extension of my video game fan club: having a safe space for queer people to express themselves by exploring characters and stories in games, or in this specific case, movements in Just Dance the vid
Find something to give back to the community. Don't always exploit it.
In Just Dance, I found myself exploring endless possibilities for expressing myself through catchy music, impactful lyrics, and diverse dance styles. It's fun to discover yourself that way, so I hope I can do it for the others too. In fact, my game events have been well-received by attendees as we collaborated with Ubisoft Da Nang, Sony Vietnam, Social Changemakers, Hobby Horizon, and VietPride.
I believe in nurturing small communities and giving them your best efforts to diversify the vast landscape of communities, hobbies, interests, causes, and more. Everyone can find many specific spaces that they feel safe in and that cater to their needs and passions. Our modern days may lack physical third places where their only purpose is to help people socialize, build community, and form new relationships... that doesn't mean we can't try to do something.
While Just Dance Game Fan Community is all about fun parties, video games, and grooving to the music, UniGEN has always been for LGBTIQ and marginalized communities that nurture calmer, less flashy spaces for everyone who might not have the luxury to be out and proud or to try to discover them. With the "Play With Pride: Game Queer Trước Khuya" event for VietPride 2024, we managed to find the bridge between both. The event provided a safe space in daylight for queer gamers to discover games with queer characters, stories, and games made by queer creators. All attendees got to express themselves through characters and team up with newfound friends.
My proudest moment is being a part of VietPride and Hobby Horizon in 2024 and 2025 (soon)! I got to introduce my beloved game to more people and saw them falling in love with it like I did 12 years ago!
