RMIT HD Lovers is an academic community bridging the gap between curious newcomers and top RMIT graduates. Founded by graduates in the top 5%, it connects those eager to learn with those eager to share and support. Through content sharing, mentoring, and workshops on a Facebook group of 4,900+ members, it fosters a High Distinction (HD) mindset for both academic and career success. With the motto “Improvement from Experience”, it stands for an academic legacy, the beauty of helping and being helped. Looking ahead, it aims to grow beyond RMIT, becoming a hub that empowers students across universities through peer-driven learning.
There is something incredibly heartwarming about helping someone believe in themselves and push beyond their limits.
When we were students at RMIT, many of our achievements didn’t come from individual effort alone – they were the result of collective support from lecturers, peers, mentors, and alumni who inspired us, guided us, and believed in us. We also knew the struggle of facing tough assignments, self-doubt, and the pressure to excel.
At times, we wished we could directly connect with someone who had once stood where we stood. But no such platform existed. That’s what motivated us to create RMIT HD Lovers – an academic community that bridges the gap between curious students and top graduates, between those eager to learn and those passionate about sharing. In just 6 months, our Facebook community has grown to over 4,900 active members. We've shared 40+ detailed posts (serving as a GPA 4.0 Handbook), organized 2 free workshops about academic skillsets (150–250 students per workshop), and launched 2 rounds of mentoring giveaways (200–300 applicants per round).
What makes us most proud isn’t just the numbers, but the quality of engagement – every post sparks thoughtful discussions and inspires students to lift each other. We’ve seen mentees gain confidence, improve their skills, and even achieve High Distinctions after participating. Our proudest moments come not from accolades, but from watching others grow. Many of us in the founding team dream of becoming educators one day, and this project is a step on that path.
There is something incredibly heartwarming about helping someone believe in themselves and push beyond their limits. We truly believe everyone has untapped potential; they just need someone to light the way. This project is also our heartfelt tribute to RMIT – the institution that shaped us. We've received support from students, alumni, and lecturers alike, expanding our academic networks and reconnecting with others who share the same spirit of contribution. Ultimately, RMIT HD Lovers is more than a student support group – it’s an academic legacy in motion, and we hope to bring this model to more universities in the future.
