Embrace Gratitude and Define Success: Insights from Prominent Alumnus Pham Tuan

During the 2024 RMIT Vietnam’s Graduation Ceremony, we had the privilege of hosting Mr. Pham Tuan, a distinguished alumnus and the CEO of Cong Bang Corporation, as our keynote speaker. His words resonated deeply with our audience, urging us to embrace gratitude and redefine success. Tuan emphasized the importance of appreciating ourselves, our teachers, friends, and family. Let’s explore his insightful perspective on measuring success and choose the statement that resonates most with you.

True Values and Impact
According to Mr. Pham Tuan, true success cannot be measured solely by material wealth or possessions. Instead, it should be evaluated based on the “true values” we create and deliver to our company, customers, community, and country. Success lies in making a positive impact, fostering innovation, and contributing to the betterment of society. By focusing on creating value, we can find fulfillment and leave a lasting legacy.

Happiness and Impact on Others
Tuan also highlighted the significance of measuring success through personal happiness and the happiness we bring to others. Success should not be confined to individual achievements, but rather extend to the well-being and joy we cultivate in our relationships and interactions. By spreading happiness and positively impacting the lives of those around us, we can experience a deeper sense of fulfillment and achieve true success.

Mr. Pham Tuan’s inspiring words remind us to embrace gratitude and redefine how we measure success. Taking a step back, we realize that success goes beyond material wealth and possessions. Instead, it is about the “true values” we create, the impact we make, and the happiness we experience and bring to others. Let us express gratitude for ourselves, our teachers, friends, and family, recognizing the invaluable support and influence they have had on our journeys.

Mr. Pham Tuan’s full speech:

“Good afternoon, RMIT Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and President, Council members, Pro Vice-Chancellor Vietnam, staff, distinguished guests. Good afternoon parents and graduands.

Dear graduands, you are going to get a very valuable degree from a leading university of impact, RMIT University. It is a remarkable milestone in your life. Big congratulations to all of you.

At this moment, you may have many different feelings and thinking, but I would like all of you to stop all the thinking and feelings.

Spend this moment to be grateful for yourself, for having overcome many challenges to reach your goal, grateful for your teachers and your friends who have accompanied you during your beautiful student journey, and lastly, with all your heart and mind, be grateful for your parents, your families who have given you all their love, their care, and also their money to help you reach this milestone.

You have conquered a challenge and completed a proud academic journey, and started to embark on a new journey ahead. A journey that will define yourself and create your footprints in life. I believe that all of you have your own dreams and plans for the future. And I think your academic achievement from RMIT will be a good foundation for you to build your dreams and your future on it.

We are very happy and lucky to live in Vietnam, a peaceful country, a developing and inclusive country, and one of the most dynamic economies in the region and in the world. It opens many opportunities for you to expose your talent and capabilities to contribute to the society and the country’s development. However, we are also facing many challenges in the current turbulent time for the world. There are many changes to adapt to, many issues to solve and many challenges to overcome to reach your success.

So, how do you measure success? Success is not measured by how much money you own, how much property you have. It should be measured by the “true value” you can create and deliver to your company, your customers, to the community and to the society. It is also measured by the happiness you have and the happiness that you can bring to others.

There are many people asking me this question when they hear the name of our company: “Why is it Cong Bang?”. It sounds not so elegant, or it sounds so rustic. But I proudly explain to them that Cong Bang simply means fair practice. From the beginning, we want to be fair to all stakeholders and we even want to be fair to nature and the environment. Our slogan is “Bring you true values”. These are our business philosophy, our vision and mission. We always try to bring good solutions to enhance the quality and standard of construction and building, to enhance the living standards and to have a strong commitment to environment protection and preservation. And thanks to that, we have received much love and support from our customers and the market, which have created our success today!

Lastly, I want to wish all of you courage and resilience. Never stop learning and improving yourself to embrace those challenges ahead. Have a successful career, and also have a happy life where you can find the balance between work and life.

Thank you RMIT very much for having me today. And thank you very much for your attention.

Goodbye and see you again in RMIT alumni activities in the coming time.

Thank you.”
