On May 17th, the RMIT Alumni Relations team organized a factory tour of Duy Tan Recycling Corporation, providing alumni with an opportunity to observe innovative recycling models at one of Vietnam’s leading plastic companies.
During the visit, participants observed Duy Tan’s eco-friendly factory, which operates with zero emissions, no water waste, and no solid waste. The factory particularly intrigued the participants by using a special Koi fishpond to measure water quality after purification.

Attendees also explored the “bottle-to-bottle” concept, which involves recycling used plastic bottles into plastic particles to reduce fossil fuel consumption. They learned about various types of recyclable plastics, including rPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate), commonly found in beverage bottles, and rHDPE (Recycled High-Density Polyethylene), used in plastic cans, packaging, and household appliances.
In 2023 alone, the Duy Tan Recycling factory collected and recycled 30,800 tons of plastic waste, equivalent to 2.4 billion plastic bottles. The company leads the recycling industry by exporting 12,300 tons of recycled plastics to highly regulated markets such as the U.S. and the EU. Their production is also certified by esteemed organizations, including the FDA and EFSA.

This factory tour is part of RMIT Alumni Relation’s broader campaign, “Sạch – Sành – Sanh,” which aims to raise public awareness of sustainable consumption and production. The campaign includes various activities for the RMIT alumni community, such as field trips, competitions, and green lifestyle challenges.
