Walking to Plant Trees: RMIT Vietnam Alumni’s Remarkable Conservation Effort

RMIT Vietnam Alumni, in collaboration with Joy Foundation and Keep Vietnam Clean, recently concluded a highly successful event, “Walking to Plant Trees,” which witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 758 individuals. Over the past three weeks, participants collectively covered an impressive distance of 44,174 kilometers. This event served as a significant milestone in RMIT University Vietnam’s ongoing 2024 Sạch Sành Sanh Campaign (Clean Clever Continuity), aimed at building forests and generating more oxygen through daily walking.

On 18th July, RMIT Vietnam Alumni, Joy Foundation, and Keep Vietnam Clean joined forces to carry out a momentous tree-planting initiative. Over 1,000 trees were successfully planted at two key locations: Binh Chau Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve and Phuc Tien Primary School in Hanoi.

Ms. Manuela Spiga, the Director of Career, Alumni & Industry Relations at RMIT University Vietnam, expressed her thoughts on the event, stating, “”Walking to Plant Trees” is an integral part of our 2024 Sạch Sành Sanh Campaign. Through the collective efforts of our community, we have achieved a remarkable feat, covering thousands of kilometers and planting over 1,000 trees at Binh Chau Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve and Phuc Tien Primary School in Hanoi. This initiative showcases the power of unity in creating a greener environment.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Ngoc, a representative of the Binh Chau Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, conveyed her gratitude on behalf of the Management Board. She extended her appreciation to the RMIT University community, including alumni, students, and staff, for their dedication to afforestation and the creation of green spaces. She highlighted the significant impact of their efforts, with each 10 kilometers walked resulting in the planting of one tree in the nature reserve. Ms. Ngoc expressed her hope that this inspiring model and collaborative endeavor would be replicated and expanded throughout Vietnam.

The principal of Phuc Tien Primary School in Hanoi, Ms. Ta Thi Kim Quy also emphasized the importance of planting green trees within educational institutions. She acknowledged the positive effects of providing students with green and refreshing spaces for their studies and activities.
