Just follow what you love doing and make the most out of university life
The only female graduate from RMIT University’s Bachelor of Information Technology was presented with an Outstanding Graduate Award for achieving the highest GPA in her graduating program at the recent graduation ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City.
“I wanted to learn programming languages to develop applications on my own. It was not easy at first and required a lot of hard work and patience to reach the finish line,” said Linh, who was able to secure a job even before graduating.
RMIT School of Science &Technology Associate Lecturer Anna Felipe applauded Linh’s performance on several course projects that she completed.
“The project Linh’s team developed in Software Engineering Project Management is a virtual assistant for home automation that can do things like control the brightness of the lights, monitor a security camera system, and provide entertainment,” Associate Lecturer Felipe said.
“She also completed a project that may positively impact the Learning and Teaching community by providing an additional function to platforms that communicate in real-time, for teachers and students specifically to allow online communication and live-stream lectures.”
Thanks to Linh’s active engagement in two consecutive RMIT technology experience days (one of which she ran a workshop on her own entitled Build your own webpage), Linh was presented with the School of Science & Technology Best Achievement Award for two years running.
Currently working as a DevOps Officer at a Danish IT and business consulting company, Linh encourages all female students who want to pursue a career in science and technology to take the lead.
“Just follow what you love doing and are good at and make the most out of university life. Gender does not influence your academic performance nor your career choice, hard work does,” Linh said.
